Along the frozen trails of the Mackenzie River, travellers have long reported something unsettling: voices cutting through the winter air, firm and commanding, as though someone is still giving orders long after their journey should have ended.

This episode explores the historic account of Augustus Richard Peers, whose body was transported by dog sled for reburial—guided by Roderick MacFarlane—and the chilling legend that followed. According to the story, Peers’ presence did not fade with death. Instead, it lingered, directing sled dogs and wildlife alike, protecting his remains from the dangers of the northern wilderness.

To this day, witnesses claim to hear commands echoing across the ice and to glimpse a lone figure moving along the winter trails—watchful, purposeful, and unwilling to be left behind.

Is this simply a story shaped by grief, isolation, and the unforgiving North?
Or is something still travelling the river, guarding a journey that never truly ended?
